As our Academic Dean and Principal of General Studies, Rabbi Macabee Avishur works with our outstanding faculty and staff to deepen our commitment to educational excellence, best practices in teaching and learning, building strong relationships with students, and strengthening the school-home partnership.
Rabbi Avishur joins us from Prizmah Center for Jewish Day Schools and the YU School Partnership, where he has served, and will continue to consult for the last six years as a senior consultant and leadership coach to schools and school leaders across North America. In this role, he has gained both experience in the field as well as a deep understanding of what works and what doesn’t work in Jewish schools.
Rabbi Avishur began his career as a high school math and science teacher in the Mesivta of Greater Los Angeles. He then served as a school administrator at schools in Texas and Michigan. Rabbi Avishur led a variety of school improvement initiatives, including revising assessment practices to enhance student learning, creating a teacher mentoring program, improving both instruction and learning and enhancing school culture.
In all of his positions, Rabbi Avishur was known for the deep connections he formed with students, the care with which he included parents in their children’s education, and for setting high expectations and helping students and teachers achieve them.
