We believe that it is our responsibility to ensure the social, emotional and spiritual development of each child. Our guidance department is comprised of senior rebbeim and experienced professionals who meet with students regularly to discuss and address any challenges they may be confronting and help plan for their futures. Our yeshiva is small enough to afford each student personal attention, while large enough to maintain a robust roster of professionals equipped to effectively navigate the numerous challenges and opportunities of the high school years.
The Heichal family recently welcomed Rav Dani Staum as our new full-time Guidance Counselor and Rebbe for the ninth grade intermediate Limudei Kodesh track.
Rav Staum received semichah from the renowned Rav Berel Wein and graduated from Fordham University with his Licensed Masters of Social Work degree, with a special focus on adolescent mental health. He has served as a division head at Camp Dora Golding as well as rebbe, teacher, general studies principal and guidance counselor at several top-tier yeshivas and day schools, most recently at Ashar. A sought-after speaker and noted author on issues relating to the mental health of teenage boys, Rav Staum has distinguished himself as a leader in the guidance of young men.
Israel guidance focuses on the year following graduation with the goal of helping place students with their optimal growth and comfort in mind. During the course of the year, Rav Komet works closely with various yeshivos in Israel to evaluate their suitability for our talmidim. Heichal invites selected yeshiva representatives to visit our yeshiva and speak with our talmidim in person. It is the policy of Heichal not to promote any specific yeshiva, but rather, to assist our talmidim and their parents find the best fit for their educational needs, learning styles and hashkafic outlooks.
This year, Heichal graduates are attending the following Yeshivas in Eretz Yisrael:
- Kerem B’Yavneh
- Mevaseret Zion
- Midrash Shmuel
- Toras Moshe
- Yishrei Lev
Beginning in junior year, Assistant Principal Rabbi Ronnie Malavsky meets with each student and his parents to discuss and plan for his career aspirations, goals for college acceptance, and the securing of scholarships and other financial assistance opportunities. Drawing from his over three decades of successful high school leadership, Rabbi Malavsky develops a personal blueprint for each student that includes guidance on standardized testing, the college application process, and the development of a competitive high school resume (e.g. the inclusion of extracurricular activities).
Heichal graduates have been accepted to the following colleges and programs:
- CUNY’s Queens College
- Ner Yisroel, Baltimore
- Touro’s Lander College Honors
- Yeshiva University’s Honors and Masmidim
The adolescent years are fraught with questions and challenges, particularly in this age of technology and open society. Heichal is fortunate to count among its faculty Rav Moshe Tzvi Weinberg and Rav Yehuda Willig who act as inspirational mashpiim for our young men.
Every Thursday evening, these rebbeim meet with our talmidim and deliver inspirational talks and divrei chizuk before Maariv. Rav Moshe Tzvi, as he is fondly known, serves as Mashpiah at Congregation Beth Abraham in Bergenfield, NJ and as Mashgiach Ruchani at Yeshiva University’s Irving I. Stone Beit Midrash Program, as well. His reputation and oratory prowess make him one of the most sought after speakers in our community. Rav Willig is a rebbe in the Stone Beis Medrash as well. The talmidim enjoy how he harnesses the power of music to raise their spirituality.
